Meeting chair Jane Wilcox put the following motion, moved by Deb Wace and seconded by Patsy Jones*
That this meeting calls on the Tasmanian Government to immediately reverse the proposed job cuts at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, retain the skilled staff who care for and interpret Tasmania’s state collections, and provide TMAG with the secure, long-term funding needed to fulfil its public, cultural and scientific responsibilities.
The motion was carried.
*Patsy Jones’ comment after seconding the motion: ‘I did it for Dick’. Patsy’s late husband Dr Richard Jones (1936–1986), a biologist at the University of Tasmania, was one of the founders of the United Tasmania Group in 1972. It was the world’s first Green party, and later morphed into the Tasmanian Greens.
